California Paintball Safety Coalition (CalPBSC) Update on SB 798
Amendment Added to Exempt Paintball
June 14, 2011
Thanks to everyone’s letters and calls, California state legislators have learned that Paintball is a legitimate recreational sport and was not the cause of inadvertent police shootings in the state of California. The CalPBSC is pleased to report that Senator De Leon, the author of SB 798, has accepted language which exempts paintball from the proposed restrictions on the sale of imitation firearms. An amendment has been added to the bill which can be seen on the Facebook page. The amended bill will now be heard by the Assembly’s public safety committee at a hearing scheduled for June 21st. We expect the bill will be voted on by the full Assembly shortly thereafter, after which it will be returned to the Senate for a concurrence vote and sent to the Governor for signature.
The CalPBSC would like to thank all of the industry members and players who worked together to get our voice heard before paintball was hurt. We are now asking that people contact Senator De Leon to thank him for working with the paintball industry to save paintball in California and to tell him that you fully support the amended bill. You can email the Senator directly from http://sd22.senate.ca.gov/ and then clicking on the right side email button.
Be sure to visit us at www.facebook.com/SavePaintballinCalifornia for continuing updates about this legislation. Although we are optimistic about the amendment passing, nothing is final until the full Senate and Assembly approve the bill and the governor signs it. Thanks again for your support of the CalPBSC and for all of your efforts in working to get this legislation amended.
