Who is Critical Wrecking Crew?
In 2008, Critical Wrecking Crew formed in Southern California starting out as three friends, Myk Lambrose, Randy Felix, and Jordan Hajewski, who loved paintball, yet were too new to the sport to garnish any interest from established teams. They therefore decided to earn their place in tournament paintball together forming a team just two weeks before their first national event. With the help from veteran paintball player and owner of Critical Paintball Jon-Paul Fourtunatti, they were able to form a solid squad and refine their skills enough to take first place. This baptism by fire tempered the team’s commitment, thus forming a team that Facefull Magazine said after the 2009 USPL Huntington Beach event, “They are going to surprise people… maybe even themselves.”
This would not be the only time Facefull Magazine recognized Critical Wrecking Crew. The team continued realizing this potential throughout the entire 2009 season, finishing top four in every event they competed in except one. This torrent of success raised a lot of interest with in the divisional paintball community eventually leading the team to sign with Rockstar Energy Drink for the majority of the season. They would go on to finish third in both the USPL D3 Series and the WCPPL D3 Series.
The 2010 series proved to be more challenging. When WCPPL switched to the X-Ball format, it caused a schism in the Southern California paintball community. Wanting to play as much as possible, Critical Wrecking Crew decided to play both leagues. With no financial means to make it to the NPPL in Washington DC, they were forced to miss it and give up the crucial points that kept them out of top four in the series ultimately finishing 8th out of 30. While they were still able to demonstrate their prowess in 7 man, the constant switching to X-Ball, its scheduling confliction with NPPL which forced them to miss one event , and a number of serious injuries of key players lead the team to finish 9th in the WCPPL series.
With the 2011 season fast approaching, Critical Wrecking Crew has regrouped and is determined to continue their tradition of being a top team in divisional paintball. They have recently acquired several players from Rockstar Factory filling the few gaps in their roster. The team has decided to focus solely on 7-man, playing NPPL and the D-League, while the individual players are still free to guest on other teams as long as they wear their Critical Jersey, use the team gear, and that it does not conflict with team practices or events. Since the team is based in Southern California (the heart of 7-man), they have been able to gain a report with several professional teams in the area guaranteeing the team rewarding practices against teams such as Dynasty. These factors ensure that the 2011 season of D1 7-man will be dominated by Critical Wrecking Crew.
Our initial success as a paintball team has not gone unnoticed. We were lucky enough to become one of Empire's official Axe sponsored teams and were therefore the first team to win an event with Empire's new marker. In 2011 we made significant roster changes, adding seasoned Division 1 players from all over California and Nevada who are dedicated enough to make practice every Sunday at either Camp Pendleton or Warped Paintball Park. Recently we have signed a contract with Monster Energy drink becoming their official division 1 paintball team, thus helping to bring new sponsors to the sport.
