San Francisco Explicit Team interview with Owner Rob Montiero!

The NPPL sat down with San Francisco’s Explicit Rob Montiero for an exclusive interview about his team, upcoming events, and the new NPPL format.
NPPL: Rob, You joined the NPPL Pro division in 2009 what has these last three years been like as a Pro team?
Rob: It’s been such a great time. Really completing that dream my son Ryan had 6 years ago to become a pro team and in 2009 we had the opportunity. We have had such a great opportunity competing at the highest level and against some of the best teams in the world.
NPPL: What is it that drives someone to be a Pro team owner and play Pro in the NPPL?
Rob: Its simple, Love for the game and the relationships you build.
NPPL: These last three years have been tough on the team what were some of the highlights?
Rob: Wow, Bart will kill me but our first pro event at HB Game 3 and we beat Impact. Also the first time we beat Dynasty in Vegas. These are two great teams that we admired back when we played divisional leagues.
NPPL: What can we expect to see from Team Explicit in 2012?
Rob: We are very excited. We decided to restructure the team and have new players such as Neil Eberle, Tyler Harmon, Ryan Podesta, and Feddy Cummins..Of course Ryan Pruitt returning with the team, lol he has no choice.. We will be announcing next week 2 more key players that will be joining our Family.
NPPL: How does sponsorship play a role with the team?
Rob: This is the a crucial part. I have pretty much funded the team for the past 3 years on my own. Darin with DGX really helped us out. This year we will have some great sponsors and we will announce those next week.
NPPL: What makes Explicit different from other Pro Teams?
Rob: 3 Key thinks make any team good. I can't speak for the rest of the pro teams but for Explicit we have Desire**Dedication**Commitment.... We look at failure as a stepping stone to success!
NPPL: The NPPL is looking at a Race -2 – Five 7 man format for next year. Do you think this will be a better format for Explicit?
Rob: Yes we are a fast pace team and like bringing the intensity to the other teams.
NPPL: How did the chips work in the guns last Year?
Rob: They were fine, really didn’t notice a difference... I did enjoy seeing the stats per player.
NPPL: Who are you sponsors?
Rob: Stay Tuned. We will announce next week.
NPPL: What does your practice and promo schedule look like for 2012?
Rob: Practice minimum of 4 times a month with min 2 scheduled scrims before each tournament (Jan 21/22nd at CEPP with XSV & Impact our Promote NPPL Day and down at Camp Pendleton Feb 11th & 12th with Impact, XSV and Dynasty).... We will also have several signings and clinics throughout the year. We truly believe in giving back to the community. Fundraisers for Shriners Children Hospital and Toys for Tots.
Rob, Thanks for the interview and good luck this season, looking forward to seeing Explicit play in the Surf City USA Open.
